MANILA, Philippines – There is no explanation why postpone the 2022 national elections, as the country is already beginning to reopen tourist attractions such as the “white beach” of Manila Bay and Boracay, Vice President Leni Robredo said Sunday.
(If we can reopen Manila Bay, Boracay and other tourist sites, there is no explanation for postponing it. )
The Electoral Commission (Comelec) has said it plans to conduct the 2022 national elections for two or three days if COVID-19 persists until then.
“Nagsalita na your comelec na hindi ipo-reportpone, kasi your pinaghahandaan nila ngayon, its pinaghahandaan nilang stage, in May 2022 COVID pa din,” Robredo said.
(Comelec has already stated that it will be postponed and that they are already preparing for the situation that coVID-19 will continue until 2022).
Robredo cited other countries that are holding their national elections despite the pandemic, such as the United States, New Zealand and South Korea.
Malacca-ang also rejected the option of postponing elections, saying the Philippines can be informed from other countries about how the polls would conduct despite the current fitness crisis.
