CHARLOTTE AMALIE, Calif. (AP) — Kassius Robertson hit 8 three-point shots, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander also scored 24 points and Canada beat the U. S. Virgin Islands 113-67 on Monday. the qualifiers to the Basketball World Cup.
Robertson and Gilgeous-Alexander recorded their highest total points of the game in less than 20 minutes of action.
Robertson, who plays for Obradoiro CAB in Spain, shot 61. 5% behind the arc (8 to 13) in all his scores.
Gilgeous-Alexander, who sat for half the moment, shot effectively at 84. 6% (11-13) from the ground. It was the big start followed by the Oklahoma City Thunder’s star goalie, who scored 32 career points. Debut for the senior team, a 20-point victory over the Dominican Republic on Friday in his hometown of Hamilton.
Coach Nick Nurse has introduced his 4 NBA players: Gilgeous-Alexander, Utah guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dallas forward Dwight Po and Detroit midfielder Kelly Olynyk, as Canadian veteran Melvin Ejim.
Alexander-Walker had seven assists, 11 troubles (three triples) and rebounds, Powell had 15 problems on a 6-of-7 shot and added six rebounds, and Olynyk had 11 problems, rebounds and four flies.
Thomas Scrubb added thirteen problems and five rebounds on the bench.
Laron Smith led the U. S. Virgin Islands. USA with 14 points.
It is the 3rd of six qualifying windows for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The last 3 will take position from August 22 to 30, from November 7 to 15 and from February 20 to 28.
Seven FIBA Americas will play at the 2023 World Cup in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. The 32-team World Cup is a direct qualification for the Paris Olympics.
