VANCOUVER, British Columbia, 6 October 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Restaurants Canada urges all parties to shape the next B. C. Government to adopt recommendations to help restaurants in the province succeed over the current COVID-19 crisis.

British Columbia restaurants wait a year or more to recover
The place-to-eat industry in British Columbia is not among the first and toughest affected by the effects of COVID-19, but the sector will also be among the slowest to recover.

Restaurants Canada shared recommendations for the recovery of the dining area in B. C. with all the major parties seeking to shape the next provincial government.
“As the colder months approach, restaurants will want to continue to play their important role in the British Columbia economy,” said von Schellwitz.
Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, British Columbia’s food venues sector accounted for five percent of the province’s GDP and was the third largest according to the sonal sector employer. In April, COVID-19 resulted in the loss of more than 112,000 employees in the recovery of their jobs or the re-extension of their hours to zero. Although employment in BC food higher through more than 97,000 jobs between May and August, the sector remains at least 14,000 jobs below what it was in February 2020.
