Researchers estimate the mortality of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Denmark

In Denmark, all bureaucracy was lifted from social restrictions that were put in place to restrict severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Early February 2022.

In fact, even if the deceased had contracted COVID-19, other underlying situations may have been the cause of death. . In addition, COVID-19 deaths among others who have not been tested will not be counted toward the 30-day COVID-19 death count.

However, due to the maximum rate of SARS-CoV-2 in Denmark, the option of more COVID-19 deaths is expected to be a rare incident. However, it is imperative to expand a new method to quantify the true burden of COVID-19. -19 mortality.

Mortality surveillance is incredibly complex and vulnerable to bias and other limitations, which can be corrected by introducing other methods into surveillance. A recent Eurosurveillance tested how matching infections influenced COVID-19 mortality estimates after the emergence of the Omicron variant.

The study provided analyzed the actual mortality burden of the Omicron variant by comparing the number of COVID-19 deaths over 30 days with the observed mortality pattern, three surveillance methods, i. e. , the Cause of Death Registry, a style created to correct for the 30-number of COVID-19 deaths consistent with the day of incidental deaths and excess all-cause mortality.

Since SARS-CoV-2 infection and mortality are age-dependent, existing estimates were made for other age groups, i. e. , 0–19, 20–39, 40–59, 60–69, 70– 79 and ≥ 80 years.

In Denmark, the total number of 30-day fatal cases of COVID-19 from the beginning of the pandemic to 29 May 2022 has been estimated at 6363. The daily number of deaths has fluctuated widely from other waves of COVID-19.

Retrospective comparative research revealed that the burden of death from COVID-19 weakened after the advent of the Omicron variant in Denmark. However, mortality estimates projected in foreign media recommend otherwise. Among all the waves that occurred due to the emergence of other SARS-CoV-2 variants, the maximum number of COVID-19 cases observed in 2021 expired due to infection with the Omicron variant.

Although in the peak stages of the pandemic, the occurrence of COVID-19 cases over 30 days was low, a sharp increase in cases was reported in the winter of 2021-22 due to the peak transmission rate of the circulating Omicron variant and an accumulation in the number of COVID-19 testing rates. Comparative research revealed a significant replacement in the percentage of incidental deaths, from 10-20% to about 40% after the onset of the Omicron variant.

Although a brief increase in the death rate was observed after all COVID-19-related social restrictions were lifted in Denmark, the death rate stabilized at a low to moderate point in the last quarter of 2021.

The existing study confirms a significant delay in COVID-19 mortality after the onset of the Omicron variant, i. e. attenuation of mortality rates. deep retrospective research method, which tries to adjust COVID-19 deaths for incidental deaths.
