Phoenix, AZ (KPHO KTVK) – Arizona Helping Hands expects a Christmas miracle. The nonprofit collects toys for children in a row, but is involved in what the pandemic means for donations.
“We’ve been collecting toys for 22 years, and this year we’re concerned about the existing environment with COVID,” said Dan Shufelt, president and CEO of Arizona Helping Handsing.
He said the donations had come down. ” Our network links have been with corporations that have Americans on site who pick up toys and leave them in boxes throughout campus,” Shufelt said. People aren’t there this year, so the activity has gone down. These things may not happen. “
He said a lot of donations are also collected during the holiday season. “These holiday seasons probably won’t take place this year, so we have no idea how we’re going to gather enough toys to help thousands of young people in just a few months. “Shufelt said.
Last year, the nonprofit donated 6,500 toys to accommodate our state’s children. This year, they think they can be a part of it. Volunteering at the warehouse has also declined by 75% this year.
“We hope our network will come in combination to help us in all those other areas, because holidays are a vital moment and those young people want our help,” Shufelt said.
