The federal government said Thursday that COVID-19 tests would now be performed on On-site Gene Expert machines rather than relying on the molecular PCR lab procedures that take longer to diagnose.
Gene Expert machines were deployed at Abuja National Hospital; University Hospital abuja University, Gwagwalada. New state molecular laboratories have been known to be being optimized in kebbi and Bayelsa states.
The Nigerian Centers for Disease Control (NCDC), however, said more needed to be done in collecting samples across states to determine the rate of positivity in each state.
According to the report issued through the NCDC on 25 August, the states of Lagos, FCT, Kano, Plateau and Oyo collected the largest samples of COVID-19 – 95,843; 46,413; 42,744; 23,113; 19,562.
Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire at the assembly of the Presidential Working Group on COVID-19 on Thursday, said: “We are proceeding with our plans at the jurisprudence rate to less than 1%, optimizing reaction activities and cooperation with states according to their challenges.
“A new state molecular laboratory is recently being optimized in the states of Kebbi and Bayelsa, while a Gene Expert device has been installed at Abuja National Hospital and Abuja University Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada, as announced a few weeks ago.
“This means that suspicious COVID-19 emergencies can now be diagnosed at the site, reducing turnover and waiting time and allowing for increased room usage.
“This is a first step forward in managing the misery experienced by patients who urgently arrive at these hospitals. The AUTH has also discovered a new medical source of oxygen, thanks to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), which has a smart oxygen plant in Yola.
“With the imperative to reopen our economy, to roll back local and foreign air travel for the recovery of livelihoods, the joy in other countries is that COVID-19 infection rates have, in some cases, increased dramatically. We will therefore have to try not to lose our attention in the preservation of lives or to lose the achievements that we have achieved for months.
“Responsibility is not only a duty of the Ministry of Health, but a shared duty with the public. Our safest, most, maximum, simple and inexpensive way to strike balance is to respect non-pharmaceutical measures as we have so often preached. measures, we can balance or our indices. “of the samples collected. We’ve divided them into 4 and painted with them because most demanding situations are state-specific. This is not a shoe that suits everyone.
“Our teams are in at least 29 states and working with them to implement their plans to increase sample collection, which includes ensuring sample collection takes place in all the local government areas. Our goal is to have less positive cases and more samples collected.
“Companies are the only ones that can inspire behavioral changes in our population to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As corporations try to succeed over the demanding monetary and operational situations of the pandemic, we have the COVID-19 directive for businesses and employers in Nigeria. It can be evaluated in our – covid19.ncdc.gov.ng.
“The directive reflects industry-specific recommendations and practices to prevent you from spreading COVID-19 in the workplace, as well as to give employers some confidence in the fitness and protection of workers and customers.”
