The country’s Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) is recently conducting between 3,000 and 6,000 COVID-19 tests a day.
It said that while the verification infrastructure that is available could be carried out without problems 15,000 COVID-19 checks per day, the country had not yet fully used this capacity, since only 40% was being implemented.
The Director General of the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, released this in Abuja in a television interview.
He said: “We have a national ability to check somewhere about 15,000 checks per day. However, we do between 3,000 and 5,000 and 6,000 maximum. So that’s what we do and we check about 40% of what we have the ability to verify.
“It’s not just about the labs. It is the collection of samples; inspire others not to get tired, not to worry, to have confidence in the system, to show when they are sick, and to supply samples for testing.
“The challenge of the moment is the logistics of collecting these tests in the lab. We worked with the states last week for their effectiveness.
“The way we were given 64 labs is that, across the country and wherever we see minimal capacity, we work with them to temporarily update what they have to bring them to the checkpoint, whether it’s at a university, a public hospital, a federal university hospital.
