ARLINGTON – Before right-handed pitcher Yerry Rodriguez won the one that all minor league players aspire to hear, he suffered some taunts.
Rodriguez, a 24-year-old Dominican player who throws hard, sat in the Rangers dressing room on Sunday and told the story through an interpreter. He said he was in a hotel with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday when coaches called him. He went downstairs and began a verbal exchange alluding to the new hairstyle of the caster: small fluffy turns dyed blonde.
“Hey,” Rodriguez recalls, and coaches ask him, “Are you going to go to the primary leagues with that hair?”
After laughing, Rodriguez digested the trail of his promotion to the Vigilantes and the life-changing opportunity to dress at Globe Life Field.
He didn’t participate in Sunday’s win over the Mariners, but Rodriguez hopes to make his league debut soon. MLB. com ranked Rodriguez as the No. 24 of the Rangers, and with a fastball approaching a hundred miles per hour, you may have the prospect of strengthening the Texas relievers’ bullpen one day.
“He’s just grateful for the opportunities they’re offering him and he needs to take advantage of them,” Roriguez’s interpreter said. “Whatever they ask him to do, he’s in a position to do it. “
Bottom line: The Vigilantes placed left-hander Matt Moore on the paternity list Sunday, opening the way for Rodriguez. Moore can stay out of the team until Wednesday. . . Outfielder Leody Taveras was out of the lineup for a moment in the game still. he entered as a defensive backup in the ninth. Woodward declined to say why Taveras didn’t bat this weekend, but said he expected Taveras to start Monday in opposition to the Athletics. Rookie outfielder Bubba Thompson has another first hit in the majors. The league office decided that Thompson’s dribble to third base on his Deyet on Aug. 4, first considered an error, deserves to be considered a single. Woodward said the Rangers kept the ball to give it to Thompson. in case of a change.
