Rahul Dravid tests positive for covid, travels to Dubai for Asian Cup yet: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

New Delhi, August 23

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid tested positive for covid and did not accompany the team led by Rohit Sharma, who left for Dubai to participate in the Asian Cup, starting on August 27, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said on Tuesday.

India face rivals Pakistan in their opening match on August 28.

“The indian team’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, tested positive for covid in a regime carried out before the team left for the UAE for the 2022 Asian Cup.

“Dravid is under the supervision of BCCI’s medical team and has mild symptoms. You will be enrolled in the team once you return with a negative covid report,” Shah said in a statement.

It is understood that, for now, assistant coach Paras Mhambrey will be up to the team, but on Tuesday a call will be taken on whether NCA leader VVS Laxman will sign up for the team in Dubai.

“We have not received a call to find out whether VVS will be going to Dubai from Harare or not. A call will be made accordingly and, if necessary, joined. Until then, Paras Mhambrey will be in charge. All other members are on alert. “and I left for the UAE early in the day,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

While most of the team members left Mumbai on Tuesday morning, Vice-Captain KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and reserve player Axar Patel will do so from Harare, after completing their project in Zimbabwe.
