Quebec reports 896 new instances of COVID-19 while a member of LTC space tested positive

MONTREAL – A member of a long-term personal care home in the suburbs of Montreal, where dozens of citizens died on the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, tested positive for the disease, the local fitness firm said Sunday when Quebec reported its highest single. COVID-19 since May.

CIUSSS-West-de-Ile-de-Montréal spokesman Héléne Bergeron-Gamache said the firm reported Saturday morning that a herron Residence staff member had tested positive for COVID-19.

In late March, the regional fitness government found that only 3 workers were serving 133 residents, some of whom were wearing overflowing diapers and suffering from dehydration.

Quebec reported 896 new instances of COVID-19 on Sunday, the highest one-day count in the province in months, and Health Minister Christian Dube said the accumulation in instances is mainly due to network transmission.

“We asked to restrict contacts in the coming weeks,” Dube wrote on Twitter after the issue was announced.

Health also reported four more deaths attributed to the coronavirus: two in the last 24 hours and two between September 20 and 25.

The province has now recorded a total of 71,901 COVID-19s and 5,825 deaths.

Another COVID-19 outbreak reported this weekend at a long-term care home in Laval, Quebec, north of Montreal.

Judith Goudreau, spokesperson for local fitness firm CISSS Laval, said Sunday that 11 citizens and seven at the Idola-Saint-Jean Accommodation Centre had tested positive.

Goudreau said the citizens who conducted the test were transferred to a “red zone” on the site of the facility, which has a capacity of 25 beds.

Visits to the facility have been suspended, Goudreau said in an email, and all workers and citizens will be evaluated for COVID-19.

The Quebec government said Sunday that hospitalizations had decreased by one unit in more than 24 hours for a total of 216.

Of these, another 41 people are in intensive care, a decrease of 4 compared to the previous day.

Authorities said 27,380 COVID-19s were held on September 25, the date for which it is known.
