Doha, Qatar: The Faculty of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine, is conducting a study on the effect of COVID-19 on students in physical professions.
Research conducted by Qatar University’s (QU) QU Faculty of Health Pharmacy, in collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine, found that worry increased anxiety levels among fitness career students, driven by uncertainty. pandemic outlook, worries about contracting the virus, and concerns about their education and long-term careers.
The groundbreaking study sheds light on the profound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the intellectual fitness and empathy of professional fitness academics. This study provides critical insights into the demanding situations faced by academics in the fitness professions in those unprecedented times, alleviating the pressing need for help and intervention.
Led by Dr. Alla El Awaisi, Director of Clinical Operations and Engagement at QU Health, the study delves into the reports of academics in the fitness professions, revealing the barriers they have faced during the ongoing pandemic. Despite its findings, the study highlighted the incredible strength of empathy in professional fitness academics. In facing their own challenges, these outstanding scholars have demonstrated resilience and an unwavering capacity for empathy, which is imperative to offering compassionate care, even in the face of adversity.

In addition, the study sounded the alarm about the urgent need to raise awareness of burnout and put educational interventions in place. By revealing the prevalence and effect of burnout among academics in the fitness professions, the study highlighted the need to integrate burnout prevention. incorporate methods into educational curricula and foster a culture that prioritizes the well-being of students in those not-so-easy fields.
Of the 1,268 scholars eligible to participate, 272 completed the online survey. The average age of the participants was 21. 4 years, and the maximum of them were women (92. 6 years). Most of the respondents studied pharmacy (36. 4%) or medicine (24. 6%). Most of the academics were heavily involved with COVID-19.
They were very or incredibly concerned about the duration of the pandemic (69. 9%), the number of new cases, their safety and security, the threat of contracting COVID-19 themselves, and the threat of their loved ones contracting COVID-19.
While the study is of great value, it is important to recognize its limitations. Basically, the data collected was based on self-reported responses from an online survey, introducing the possibility of bias and inaccuracies.
In addition, a low reaction rate of only 21% was found, which may simply be the generalization of the exam results. While it is imperative to keep in mind the limitations of the exam when interpreting the results, its implications go far beyond QU and are feared by all educational institutions. By identifying the unique desires and demanding situations faced by academics in fitness careers, QU is able to expand specific systems that directly address their well-being, whether in times of crisis or in everyday situations. Through projects aimed at managing burnout by raising awareness and promoting the overall aptitude of scholars, QU aims to tame a supportive environment that promotes the intellectual well-being of its scholars. In doing so, we attempt to empower and uplift fitness career scholars, enabling them to provide exceptional care. communities, even in the most challenging circumstances.
