Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s museums invite the public to immerse themselves in the history of the early Islamic era with exclusive tours of the archaeological site of Ain Mohammed.
As part of the second season of the “Landscapes of Faith” project, these opportunities aim to offer an immersive experience in the ongoing excavations at Ain Mohammed and Mesaika.
Qatar has an unusually high number of sites of the Early Islamic period, mostly scattered through the deserts of the north, but also found in central and southern Qatar, 30 of which have been identified by archaeologists. These two public open days offer an opportunity to visit one of these sites, Ain Mohammed.
Dr Robert Carter, Qatar Museums Project Director, will guide visitors through the Ain Mohammed excavations, showing the newly discovered structures and artefacts. This exclusive opportunity promises an insightful narrative about the ancient significance and ongoing discoveries at the site.
“Landscapes of Faith” addresses questions about Qatar’s archaeological heritage, with the aim of discovering the reasons for the concentration of these sites and deciphering the way of life of its ancient inhabitants. This task spearheads an exploration of life, economic activities, global connectivity and resilience of other people in the midst of the harsh desert of Qatar.
