Following discussions between the host country government and FIFA, the sale of alcoholic beverages at the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and authorized venues was to be concentrated by cutting beer outlets on the perimeters of the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums in Qatar.
The concept of not drinking beer in the stands is already familiar to many football fans, especially those in England, where alcohol consumption is banned “in full view of the field”, according to a government decree. But thirsty fans tend to drink in pubs near stadiums until minutes before kick-off, then sneak into another pint or two at halftime, as drinking is allowed in stadium corridors. In this World Cup, even those measures are not on the table.
