Python swallows one on a plantation in Indonesia

Body of 54-year-old man found in the abdomen of 7-meter snake on the island of Sumatra

A woman was discovered dead in the abdomen of a 7-meter python on a rubber plantation where she worked in Indonesia, according to local reports.

The woman, known as Jahrah, 54, went to paint on the plantation in Jambi province on the island of Sumatra on Sunday morning and her husband reported her when he returned home that night.

While searching for her Sunday night, her husband found her sandals, a headscarf, a jacket and the equipment he wore at work, and called others for help, police told local media. The next morning, a python was seen nearby.

“When the security team and citizens searched around the rubber plantation, we discovered a 7-meter-long python. It is this snake that is suspected of attacking the victim. After catching it, we discovered the victim’s body in the snake’s stomach. AKP police leader S Harefa told the Detik news site.

Pythons, which kill by constriction, eat smaller animals and swallow the food whole. Cases of swallowed humans are rare.

In 2018, a woman discovered she had swallowed a giant python on Muna Island, off the coast of Sulawesi. It had disappeared into his garden, which was at the foot of a rocky cliff where snakes were known to live in caves.

A year earlier, a farmer killed and swallowed a giant python in the village of Salubiro on the island of Sulawesi.

Many more people are affected by snakebites. Each year, there are about 5. 4 million cases of snakebites, of which between 1. 8 and 2. 7 million result in poisoning, according to the World Health Organization. Children and farm workers in the poorest rural communities are the most at risk.
