Russian President Vladimir Putin met with other heads of state Wednesday at a large table in Turkmenistan that overshadowed a comically long table in the Kremlin that in the past captured global attention.
At an assembly with the leaders of Turkmenistan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Putin sat away from the leaders at a huge oblong table while discussing cooperation in the Caspian Sea region, the Kremlin said.
According to the government of Turkmenistan, the VI Caspian Summit was held at the “luxurious Arkadag Hotel”.
But before the assembly took a stand on what Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry calls the “great convention hall,” there was a more intimate assembly in the hotel’s “small convention hall. “
Images of the giant oblong table soon circulated on social media.
Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, tweeted a photo of the table, a much smaller table used by heads of state at this week’s G7 summit in Germany.
Several hounds also tweeted his mind and made jokes on the table.
This is not the first time Putin has sat at above-average tables for meetings, but Turkmenistan’s has eclipsed the others.
In the past, he had met with French President Emmanuel Macron in February at a 13-foot-long table in Moscow, and the Kremlin broke the same table for a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres a few months later.
Russian state media even broadcast Putin’s meeting with world leaders at a “long but round” table in May, a stone’s throw away.
The New York Times previously reported that Putin would possibly be obsessed with his fitness and protection, especially the COVID-19 pandemic.
