Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday signed a doctrine urging the Russian Navy to “energetically” the waters around the Kuril Islands, claimed through Japan.
On the occasion of Russian Navy Day, Putin addressed 3,500 infantrymen gathered in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt for the grand Russian naval parade. Forty ships of different sizes, as well as 42 aircraft, participated in the parade, according to the Kremlin.
