He added that one of those exceptionally rare cuts and never discovered in excavations in Israel: a fragment of a gold solidus by the Byzantine emperor Theophanos (829-842 EC), hit in the empire’s capital, Constantinople.
According to the IAA, the fragment’s lifestyle in a treasure trove of Islamic coins attests to the links between the two rival empires.
“This rare treasure will indeed be a major contribution to the research, as the Abbasid-era discoveries in Israel are few. I hope the examination of the treasure will tell us more about an era about which we still know very little,” he said. Kool.
