The Ministry of Public Health identified the incidence of five variants of the coronavirus in the Dominican Republic thanks to the random study of PCR samples in various locations in the country.
According to the map of the variants identified in the country, presented today by the health authorities, two mutations of the virus were identified in the National District: B.1.1.122 originating in the Netherlands and B.1.108 from the United States.
In Santo Domingo East, B. 1. 1. 247, originally from Belgium, located.
Another variant from the United States, B. 1. 429, located in the province of Altagracia.
In Espaillat, the same mutation of Belgium (B. 1. 1. 247) and the British mutation B. 1. 165 were found.
The special advisor of the Ministry of Public Health for the COVID-19 response, Eddy Pérez-Then, reported that registered virus diversifications do not constitute the main transmissibility. However, he cannot scientifically why. He said that despite the appearance of these variants, Coronavirus infections have decreased in the country.
When did it appear?
The variants that gave the impression in the country were known in the global for the first time between February and June last year.
According to Pérez-Then, these variants will have to have been connected to the time infection that began between November and December last year.
The fitness government has indicated that with the identity of the variants, it is unimaginable to calculate their occurrence in the country, because the sentinel surveillance approach only allows them if the variants circulate.
They reiterated that these diversifications of the virus constitute a greater danger of lethality for the country and recommend a replacement in the protocol to return to education.
