While South Africa continues to fight the spread of COVID-19, there are other diseases in the country, namely HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB).It is these two diseases in particular that have raised considerations about the country’s ability to control the spread.COVID-19, especially since coronavirus has been shown to have a serious effect in others with pre-existing diseases.
We are talking about this as Vice President David Mabuza recently raised any consideration that investment for COVID-19 is diverting the budget from resources used to combat those two diseases.
The consultation was raised with Mabuza at a previous press conference this week, and presented a rather attractive response.
“Provincial fitness departments have experimented with the combination of TB and COVID-19 tests at some of their sites in districts, to ensure continuity of services,” Mabuza said.
“By providing HIV self-testing at COVID-19 testing sites, the Ministry of Health can succeed in others who would otherwise lack their popular HIV programs,” he said.Additional.
While this seems to be in the experimental phase, it remains to be noted whether all COVID-19 provinces and test sites implement such a feature, this is a pretty smart way to make people have more testing amenities.South Africans in our opinion.
“Community fitness staff across the country are pro-coronavirus while doing their general job of door-to-door HIV and TB surveillance, like getting certain patients to take their antiretroviral drugs. »Added the vice president.
“However, this new prioritization of resources to respond to COVID-19 did mean diverting resources from HIV and tuberculosis,” he concluded.
With government spending and resource allocation, the global pandemic and lockdown is under even greater scrutiny of late, it deserves to be attractive to see if the aforementioned experience can help keep up with HIV and TB in the country.
