Another weekend, another crowded anti-Netanyahu demonstration near the prime minister’s apartment in Jerusalem. Some 20,000 protesters marched through the streets of the holy city on Saturday night, disrupting traffic and calling for Netanyahu’s resignation for his handling of the coronavirus outbreak and alleged corruption. The demonstrators arrived at Netanyahu’s official apartment with all their might, only to locate an unknown scene: dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jews, the prime minister’s usually unwavering allies, who went out to protest Netanyahu’s resolve to ban everyone in Ukraine for the annual pilgrimage instead of the burial of a rabbi they revere. Unlike last week’s protests, clashes with police Saturday remained to a minimum, as the protests were generally peaceful. Only 16 arrests were made, perhaps due to the relentless wave of warmth that struck Israel, possibly extinguishing the appetite of protesters and police over a physical confrontation.
