Prosecutors call for effective closure of case against the most sensible Italian and WHO officials on COVID-19 response

ROME (AP) — Prosecutors in Rome have asked for a sentence to shelve an investigation into Italian and U. N. officials over Italy’s response to COVID-19 in 2020. The request of the Rome prosecutors necessarily closes the investigation without any payment. The investigation focused on whether the delay in lockdowns and Italy’s overall preparedness had contributed to the death toll. Prosecutors had already closed the case without filing charges against three of Italy’s former fitness ministers. On Thursday, they asked for a decision to shelve the case against nine other officials, including a former senior official at the World Health Organization, Dr. Ranieri Guerra.
