The Directorate of Strategic Projects and Special Programmes of the Presidency of the Republic (Propeep) announced the updating and renewal of the National Adult Literacy Program to reduce the national illiteracy rate to 5%.
Deputy Director William Lockward said that for the above objective, the establishment plans to literate at least 35,000 other people in the rest of the year, speaking on behalf of the Minister at Propeep’s rate; José Leonel (Neney) Cabrera, as a member of the birthday of International Literacy Day.
Lockward said they had obtained express orders from President Luis Abinader for this purpose and to expand their success as soon as possible.
He said that the Covid-19 pandemic motivates the use of data and wisdom technologies to update and renew the literacy program of the “Government of Change” led by President Abinader.

According to available data, the national illiteracy rate of others over the age of 15 is lately 5. 5%, a figure that represents another 406,000 people who cannot read or write.
He explained that 14,555 participants are currently in the process of following its literacy procedure, accumulated in 3,878 operational centres.
He added that 11,896 additional participants are registered in 3,068 centres, which began yesterday, following fitness protocols to prevent the spread of covid-19.
“For this, we have adapted the content and method of the National Literacy Plan to radio and audiovisual formats for social networks, radio and television,” said Lockward.
