Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has encouraged others to get vaccinated against the Omicron XBB 1. 5 variant of Covid-19 for free.

He also announced in his Facebook post that he had won an updated edition of the Covid-19 vaccine at Singapore General Hospital on November 2.

New vaccine against the Omicron variant XBB 1. 5

The updated vaccine was recently rolled out through the Ministry of Health (MOH) to protect the public who oppose the Omicron XBB 1. 5 variant in the existing new normal.

This new edition may also offer the public greater coverage against existing and emerging strains of the Covid-19 virus.

Widespread in the United States, the variant dubbed “The Kraken” is more transmissible from user to user, even if other people have already been infected or vaccinated.

Combined with its ability to evade immunity more easily, the variant carries an increased risk of reinfection.

Prime Minister Lee added that his symptoms were “minimal” and that he was feeling “generally fine”, which was “probably” because he had kept his vaccinations up to date.

“But my coverage will decrease over time, as will yours,” Prime Minister Lee said of the importance of updating vaccines.

He concluded: “Vaccination is the best option against COVID-19. Keep your immunizations up to date for you and your loved ones.

Updated vaccines are flexible and provide a “stronger immune response”

Starting Oct. 30, the new vaccine will be available for free to anyone six months and older.

The new vaccines are expected to provide “a more potent immune response” against existing and emerging strains compared to older versions of the vaccines, likely conferring greater coverage against Covid-19.

In addition, it is especially for seniors aged 60 and over, medically vulnerable people, and citizens of senior care facilities.

The Ministry of Health will update all existing formulations of the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty and Moderna/Spikevax vaccines with the updated Covid-19 monovalent vaccines until November 20, 2023.

Updated Vaccine Rollout Dates

Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty for ages and up: October 30

Moderna/Spikevax updated for ages six months and older: Nov. 14

Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty update for youth ages six months to 4 years: Nov. 20

Where to Get Vaccinated

If you are getting vaccinated, you can do so by visiting any Joint Testing and Vaccination Center (JTVC), Public Health Readiness Clinic (PHPC), or polyclinic that provides the vaccine.

Here you will be able to locate the nearest vaccination site and the types of vaccines presented on the site.

If you would like to schedule an appointment for your vaccination, you can do so or call the clinic directly.
