Prime Minister Denkov calls for EU unity in the face of Russia’s hybrid war

Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov spoke at the 12th plenary debate “This is Europe” in Strasbourg, underlining Bulgaria’s commitment to contribute especially to the progress of the European Union (EU). Denkov highlighted Bulgaria’s rich history as one of Europe’s oldest nations and highlighted the existing attempts to exert influence through targeted hybrid attacks. He criticized Russia’s exploitation of economic and cultural ties to divide Bulgarian society between pro-Russian and Euro-Atlantic groups.

Denkov under pressure that the entire club of Bulgaria, the EU and NATO, is destined for the democratic growth of the country. He advocated Bulgaria’s integration into Schengen and the eurozone to further consolidate their European ties.

Addressing global conflicts, Denkov referred to the Ukrainian conflict, the scenario in Gaza, and other geopolitical tensions around the world. He suggested a united and physically powerful Europe to play a more active role globally, its links with NATO allies and its defense capabilities. adding when contemplating the concept of a unified European military force.

The Prime Minister underlined Bulgaria’s willingness to enlarge the EU in regions such as the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. He called for a new European strategy to differentiate between war refugees and economic migrants, striking a balance between solidarity and practical opportunities.

Denkov firmly affirmed that Bulgaria is in a position to join the Schengen area and denounced that any further delay would be negative and discouraging for the country.
