President sends condolences to Kuwait’s new emir

President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence on Sunday to Kuwait’s new emir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on the passing of the Middle East country’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died on Saturday at the age of 86.

Xi said in his message that on behalf of the Chinese government and people, as well as on his own behalf, he deeply regrets Nawaf’s passing and extends his sincere condolences to his family circle and the Kuwaiti people.

Xi said Nawaf has a great reputation and reputation through the Kuwaiti people and has made a positive contribution to the progress of China-Kuwait relations.

Nawaf’s passing is a wonderful loss for the Kuwaiti people, and the Chinese people have also lost a good friend, Mr. Xi said.

Noting that the Chinese government and others cherish the friendship between China and Kuwait, Xi said that with the joint efforts of the two sides, the strategic partnership between the two countries will continue to be consolidated and developed.

On Sunday, Premier Li Qiang also sent a condolence message to Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, expressing deep condolences to Kuwaitis and sincere condolences to Nawaf’s family.

Nawaf was born on June 25, 1937, into the home of the Sabah, Kuwait’s ruling family, according to Xinhua news agency. He was Minister of Interior and First Deputy Prime Minister in 2003, became Crown Prince in 2006, and succeeded to the throne in September 2020 as the sixteenth Emir of Kuwait.

Nawaf was admitted to hospital at the end of November due to an urgent physical problem.
