The Catholic Church has reiterated its readiness to open churches as vaccination sites, as more coronavirus vaccines 2019 (Covid-19) are expected to arrive in the coming months.
The Bishop of Caloocan, Pablo Virgilio David, did this following the proposal of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunizations (NITAG) to use the churches as a vaccination site, saying that their facilities were well ventilated.
“We are already spouses of the LGU of Caloocan (local government unit) in many efforts, adding control of the pandemic and vaccination program. We are open to marrying the government whenever for a common good,” David, who is also vice president of the Catholic Episcopal Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said in a text message Wednesday.
Meanwhile, P. Jerome Secillano, Executive Secretary of the Standing Committee on Public Affairs (PCPA) of the CBCP is convinced that allowing vaccination of church services can build public confidence.
“The CBCP has already presented vaccination services in the church. It is up to the local government to tell bishops or parish priests how it can be done. There is coordination between them to clarify the main points of such a plan,” he said. saying.
He said the opening of vaccination sites is the Church’s contribution to mass vaccination to ensure population coverage (ANP).
