Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team will be wrapped in the national flag through a radical new World Cup jersey design in diagonal blocks of red and unveiled on Thursday.
The Portuguese Football Federation has officially presented the kit made through Nike with the slogan “Carry the flag”.
The design of Portugal’s flag, which is made up of green and red vertical blocks, has divided fan opinion since its unofficial launch in June.
Portugal has long played in a plain red jersey, the 2010 World Cup design has a horizontal green stripe on the chest. The team has also worn red shorts in the last two World Cups and when it won the 2016 European Championship.
The federation said the green shorts, which the team retained after it also wore them at Euro 2020 last year, are popular with fans.
Portugal will use its new design this month for the first time at Nations League matches in the Czech Republic and at home to Spain.
Portugal will face Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H of the World Cup in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
