Portugal posts largest accumulation of coronavirus cases since May

LISBON (Reuters) – Portugal reported 486 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, its largest accumulation since the week it lifted its blockade in May.

Construction raised the total races to 59,943, DGS’s fitness authority said.

Portugal, with a population of 10 million, has reported only 1,838 deaths to date, a rate of much below that of many European countries, adding to neighbouring Spain. Wave of outbreaks in Lisbon has alarmed the government and forced it to re-impose some restrictions.

Most of the new coronavirus cases recorded on Saturday occurred in and around Lisbon and the northern region, where the country’s largest city, Porto, is located.

The strictest measures to curb the coronavirus epidemic will be carried out in Portugal from mid-September, as academics return to school and many employees return to the office, the main points have not yet been announced.
