Port Colborne councilman wants COVID-19 test site in town

A movement arrives at Port Colborne City Council asking the Niagara region to establish a CONTROL of COVID-19 in the city.

During the normal City Council assembly on September 14, Ward County 1, Donna Kalailieff issued a motion notice indicating that she intended to request the creation of a COVID-19 facility in southern Niagara to provide greater service to Port Colborne, Wainfleet, and Fort Erie.

“As the winter months approach, available checks are provided closer to where our voters live,” said Kalailieff, who noted that snowy weather can make other people less likely to drive on the road to welland’s control center.

Lately there are 3 COVID-19 detection centers in the Niagara region, none of them adequately serving “South Niagara”, according to Kalailieff.

Depending on where you draw the line between northern and southern Niagara, two of the existing services are already to the south, one to the north. All 3 services are in St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls.

From the most remote rural areas of Port Colborne and Wainfleet, driving through the car to the Welland facility and vice versa takes approximately forty-five minutes in good weather; longer in snowy conditions.

Following the completion of a movement, an element that would put the movement on the installation of the COVID-19 check before the councillors on 28 September will be included in the timetable of the Port’s Colborne City Council.
