Huangshan Mountain Diversity was one of 29 anhui sites that began providing free access Saturday after China eased some of its coronavirus-induced closures, the government would possibly have underestimated interest. On Sunday, April 5, which was also part of the celebrations of the three-day Chinese Qingming (or Ching Ming) festival, the site reached its full capacity and park officials were forced to lead crowds of visitors to other sites, southern China. According to the Morning Post, visitors had to wear a mask and pass a temperature check before entering the site. They also had to show evidence of smart fitness in an app.

On Monday, a committee overseeing Huangshan, a UNESCO World Heritage site, said it sought to control traffic by requiring visitors to stay a safe distance as they walk the trails, according to China Daily, a Chinese state news agency, it is unclear how such measures will be implemented. The media said Huangshan had also recruited more volunteers to help tourists examine.
However, some users of China’s social media platform Weibo have criticized the province’s resolve to allow so many tourists to reach such close neighborhoods.
“I think China is keeping a close eye on Covid-19 detections and may need to tune the social distancing measures that are needed to keep Covid-19 contained,” said Benjamin Cowling, a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at Hong Kong University, in a statement to the Morning Post.

Anhui province borders Hubei, the province where coronavirus was first observed in the southwest. Anhui, meanwhile, says he has shown only 990 cases of coronavirus and six deaths, and the last case shown was diagnosed on February 27, according to the media.
