Pope Francis is contemplating an imaginable stopover in Bahrain in November and said Thursday he plans to postpone his vacation in South Sudan and Congo to February.
Francis told reporters on his way back from Kazakhstan that the ligaments in his stretched knee had not yet healed and that traveling was “difficult. “to Bahrain in early November that lately is under the attention of the Vatican, spokesman Matteo Bruni said.
Francis had to cancel a planned July vacation in South Sudan and Congo after his doctors said he needed more time to receive treatment for his right knee. The three-day vacation to Kazakhstan to attend an interfaith conference is painful.
Francis refused to undergo surgery and said he had a bad reaction to anesthesia when a portion of his giant intestine was removed in July 2021.
The South Sudanese leg of the route to Africa was intended to include the Archbishop of Canterbury as well as the moderator of the Church of Scotland. Francis said Thursday that he had recently spoken with Archbishop Justin Welby “and we saw the opportunity to move to Sudan in February. And if I move to South Sudan, I will move on to Conpass.
Another pope expected in 2023 closes World Youth Day, scheduled for August in Lisbon, Portugal.
