Firefighters were called to the check across the street from the century-old Way bus station after one of their tents jammed the chimney at 9:19 p. m.
A hose reel was used to shut down the chimney before the teams informed the police.
A joint investigation into the alleged arson has now begun.
The verification site will remain closed today while an investigation is being conducted, however, the site was already scheduled to close today and due to adjustments to its opening hours.
Due to the increase in the call in Lancashire, many control sites have been forced to reduce their opening hours, with Burnley’s site now open from Saturday to Wednesday between 10 a. m. and 3 p. m. de a week.
A spokesman for the chimney site branch said: “Last night we were called to a chimney site involving a tent at COVID control on Centenary Way, Burnley at 9. 19pm.
“A Burnley chimney truck went to the site and firefighters used a hose reel to shut down the chimney.
“The tent broke and firefighters remained on site for 20 minutes and a joint police and chimney investigation is underway. “
A police spokesman added: “This has been reported to us and a joint investigation is underway with the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. “
