Poland’s toughest politician, the leader of the ruling conservative party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, said he had resigned from his role as deputy prime minister in the government to talk about the party and the upcoming elections.
The resolution by Kaczynski, head of the Department of Law and Justice, was expected. His role in the government has focused on security issues and he said in an interview published Tuesday through state news firm PAP that he had planned the move earlier but still delayed due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
He said he was replaced in the workplace by Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
“It’s an absolutely herbal decision,” Kaczynski said, according to PAP. “We have a war and he’s the defense minister, so in the specific scenario we’re in, that connection has great advantages. “
Kaczynski is widely regarded as Poland’s most prominent politician, guiding government decisions and hand-picking those in high-level positions, adding Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. In 2015, he also appealed to a presidential candidate who won and is now in his time. , Andrzej Duda.
The departure of kaczynski, 73, from the government is expected to bring about major changes. Law and Justice has been in place since 2015 and for most of that time, Kaczynski officially held a position in the government.
He is a legislator in the small space of parliament and runs the country from his headquarters.
“I have already submitted an application for impeachment to the prime minister and it has been accepted. As far as I know, the president also signed it,” Kaczynski said.
Poland plans to hold its next elections in autumn 2023.
