WARSAW (Reuters) – Poland will announce more restrictions wednesday to prevent the spread of coronavirus, said Prime Minister Michal Dworczyk leader.
Poland faced an increase in infections, with the most recent record, 21,897 reported on Saturday. The country lacks hospital beds, fans, oxygen and doctors.
“The scenario is serious and the Prime Minister will announce new restrictions, decisions that would restrict our operation, the number of social contacts,” Dworczyk told Catholic radio Siodma9.
He reiterated that the government needs a general blockade.
Poland has already closed bars and restaurants, limited the operation of swimming pools and asked the elderly to do so at home.
The ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS) warned that the country’s protests against an almost total ban on abortion will lead to more COVID-19 infections.
However, some immunologists reported that protesters wore masks, kept their distance and walked outdoors, cutting off the threat of infection. Protest organizers said the government doesn’t blame for not dealing with the pandemic.
