WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s pipeline operator said Thursday it is repairing damage caused by a leak this week at Russia’s main source of crude to Germany.
PERN, the operator, also said it was looking to resume pumping crude through the pipeline as soon as possible.
PERN detected a leak in the Druzhba pipeline Tuesday night 70 kilometers (45 miles) from the central Polish city of Plock.
The Druzhba pipeline, which in Russian “Friendship”, is one of the longest oil pipelines in the world. After leaving Russia, he diversified to bring crude to topics such as Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Austria and Germany.
In a published Wednesday, the Polish operator said there were “no symptoms of third-party interference” due to a leak in the pipeline.
“Based on early discoveries and how the pipeline was deformed, it appears that at this point there are no signs of third-party interference,” PERN said. “However, more detailed analyses are being conducted to determine the cause of the incident and fix the pipeline so that crude pumping can restart as soon as possible. “
The incident follows last month’s vanquished attacks on Nord Stream 1 and 2 fuel pipelines along the back of the Baltic Sea, and as Europe seeks its dependence on Russian power after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Denmark and Sweden say pipelines were attacked with giant amounts of explosives
