Poland consults laboratories on mass mortality of Oder fish

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s Environment Ministry says water samples were being sent to labs in a bid to solve the mystery of mass fish mortality in the Oder, while the government promises stricter legislation against environmental pollutants. Experts in Poland and Germany, which percentage of the river’s reach decline, describe the deaths first noted last month as the worst herbal crisis in both countries in many years. Samples were sent to laboratories in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, the environment minister said on Tuesday. Polish firefighters say they have disposed of nearly a hundred tons of dead fish so far from the river.
