The Defence Ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have signed an agreement providing for the coverage of Slovak airspace by Polish and Czech fighter jets.

Slovakia ordered 14 U. S. F-16 fighter jets. The U. S. Is going to upgrade its old Soviet MiG-29 aircraft, but they will be delivered before 2024, DPA reports.

The sanctions imposed on Moscow by the war in Ukraine make it increasingly difficult to obtain the aircraft that Slovakia wants to house its fleet of Soviet fighter jets, which will have to be dismantled.

Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad called the agreement, which was signed at Malacky airbase in western Slovakia, evidence of a “strong friendship and even brotherhood” between the 3 countries.

The Slovak government deserves to know if Soviet aircraft can be provided to Ukraine to counter the Russian invasion.
