Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent greetings to the new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who was officially sworn in on Wednesday after assuming office following the death of his predecessor Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al -Jaber Al-Sabah. .
“Greetings and congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for assuming the office of Emir of the State of Kuwait,” Modi said in a message on X.
Prime Minister Modi further expressed confidence that relations between the two countries will improve in the coming years and that the Indian network in Kuwait will continue to thrive.
Sheikh Meshal, 83, was Kuwait’s day-to-day ruler during much of his half-brother Sheikh Nawaf’s reign due to his ill-health.
Sheikh Nawaf, 86, died last Saturday after a long illness. India announced a day of statewide mourning on Sunday. In a communication to all states, the Union Home Ministry said that during the era of state mourning on December 17, the national flag would fly at half-mast from where it flies across India and there would be no official entertainment.
