PLM worker succumbs to COVID-19, 2 others infected

MANILA, Philippines – One Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) worker died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) while two others tested positive for viral disease.

The university funded by the city government said the worker was being treated at a hospital in Manila, where she later died. The university said it had not yet made a decision on the source of COVID-19 infection.

Meanwhile, the university worker has recovered from the disease while the other worker is still confined to the hospital.

“One has recovered and the other is now recovering while he was in the hospital. These cases have been shown at other dates and locations. There is still no COVID-19 transmission on campus,” plM said.

PLM also entrusted the public that it had performed a normal disinfection on campus after the employee’s death.

“Existing protocols involve disinfection of campus facilities every morning and afternoon, while affected surfaces, such as door handles and stair railings, are disinfected every two hours,” the university said in the same statement.

The university said it only allowed a limited number of employees to report for work ahead of the reopening of classes on September 3, 2020.
