A 56-year-old Plainfield man wanted in connection with the fatal woguy attack on the city apartment they shared in 2003 was sent back to New Jersey after being arrested in Guatemala earlier this year.
Fausto Ramiro Santos Carillo was arrested through members of the U. S. Marshals Service. He was held in the U. Carillo was charged with murder, a first-degree felony, as well as weapons-related offenses in connection with the death of 49-year-old Martha Morales, prosecutors’ workplace said.
Carillo faces life in prison.
On July 23, 2003, Plainfield police responded to the six hundred block of East Third Street where they discovered Morales in an apartment he shared with Carillo. Morales had suffered several fatal stab wounds and Carillo had fled the area. He remained at Giant for several years, according to prosecutors.
In February 2018, the Union County District Attorney’s Office Special Homicide Force obtained information about Carillo’s possible location, leading to his arrest in Guatemala City, Guatemala, the prosecutor’s office said.
