PHL to start a mass of Russian Covid vaccine in October

The country will participate in massive testing of a new coronavirus disease vaccine (Covid-19) that is being developed through a Russian company.

At an online press conference Thursday, President Harry Roque’s spokesman showed that the Gamaleya Institute will conduct phase 3 of its clinical trials here and in Russia from October 2020 to March 2021.

“Russia will provide the budget for the clinical trial, which will be held in the Philippines,” Roque said.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the vaccine, called Sputnik-V in honor of the first synthetic satellite, had nevertheless been approved through its regulatory agency.

The effects of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the vaccine are expected to be reviewed through a panel of experts next month in preparation for Phase 3, in which the vaccine will be used in thousands of others for efficacy and safety.

Roque that participation in local vaccine testing will be voluntary.

In addition to allowing the country to participate in the clinical trial, Roque said they also expect the Russian government to move vaccine generation to be manufactured locally.

After the expected finishing touch of the Phase 3 trial until April, Roque said the vaccine deserves, despite everything, to be registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
