Philippines salary is among the lowest in 100 countries, study

Wages in the Philippines are one of the lowest in more than a hundred countries, according to a study through a foreign e-commerce website.

According to picodi.com, the Philippines is among 110 countries in terms of workers’ wages.

The average salary in the Philippines is 15,200 P, switzerland, the highest payer, with an average salary of 296,000 P.

Wages in the Philippines are also low for neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The survey was conducted in August 2020 through knowledge processing on the Numbeo website, a participatory knowledge base.

The Working Group of Associate Trade Unions (ALU) – Congress of Trade Unions of the Philippines regrets the result.

“Mali’s participation and peace is the map of “other young people who need to buy time abroad,” said Alan Tanjusay, the group’s spokesman.

The organization asks employers to interact in the discussion to increase their workers’ wages.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Employers’ Confederation of employers gave a poor conclusion.

They say the list lacks context because it does not take into account the country’s economy.

“That doesn’t mean na ‘pag mababa’ yung (pasuweldo) mo, the ungrabyded staff natin yung, right? What is the cost of living? Wasn’t I in the mean? Are jobs available? What are the investments? If not to put this in context, eh walang means “yung pataasan sa (pasuweldo)”, said ECOP President Sergio Ortiz-Luis.

He also said that the accumulation of wages was not adequate because the country’s economy might not be adequate.

A recent social weather station survey (SWS) showed that 45% of adult Filipinos were unemployed in July amid the continued accumulation of COVID-19 cases and the implementation of network quarantines in the country.

The survey was conducted from 3 to 6 July among 1,555 respondents. The effects showed that unemployment rose through 28 emissions compared to 17.5% in December 2019 and a new record from 34.4% in March 2012.

According to SWS, the estimated number of Filipino adults unemployed 27.3 million in July 2020 and 7.9 million in December 2019.
