Canadian Health Minister Mark Holland said Florida’s plan to import less expensive Canadian prescription drugs is a failure and that the federal government will use its regulatory muscle to make sure the domestic source of drugs doesn’t face shortages due to moves from a foreign state. “Under no circumstances will we allow any jurisdiction, whether state or other foreign jurisdiction, to jeopardize the source of drugs in Canada. It’s not an adequate solution to the demanding situations they might face,” Holland said. The U. S. Food and Drug AdministrationThe U. S. Supreme Court will temporarily authorize the import of an anti-syphilis drug manufactured through Delbert Laboratories in France, Reuters notes. Delbert Labs said it is coordinating with the regulator to introduce excentillin into the U. S. to address shortages of syphilis drugs, according to a letter posted on the FDA’s website. In June, Pfizer warned that it would soon run out of its drug, Bicillin L-A, used to treat syphilis and other bacterial infections in children, as it had to prioritize adult-oriented versions due to a syphilis infection in that country’s population.
