The Philippines has suggested that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) ensure that countries that wish to do so have access to the remedies for the 2019 coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).
“With a number of ongoing advances for Covid-19 vaccines around the world, we inspire the BAfD to play a leading role in ensuring that these remedies are available to those who want them most,” Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said at a convention. Ministers of Finance and Health Symposium on Thursday.
The symposium, on “Universal Health Coverage in Asia and the Pacific: Covid-19 and Beyond,” is part of the 53rd annual AfDB meeting.
Dominguez said the Philippines was suggesting that the Manila-based multilateral lender take the initiative to convene an executive organization with the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and other multilateral agencies to help the next member countries gain access to Covid- 19 vaccines.
“The executing organization can simply create a non-unusual data portal that will provide member countries with updates on the progression of the Covid-19 vaccine,” he said.
The CFO added that afDB deserves the organization of technical implementing groups or panels on the Covid-19 vaccine at the country level.
The BAfD also provides assistance to member countries with advice and technical assistance services on bilateral purchases and/or production agreements under contract with vaccine suppliers.
It also contributes to comprehensive monetary assistance to help member countries deliver vaccines to their poorest and most vulnerable populations.
Dominguez said money can be provided to personal corporations wishing to identify vaccine production facilities in member countries.
“A coordinated technique for the purchase of vaccines and the mobilization of investment to do so will make the next countries largely repair the energy of their economies,” he said.
