Petroperú resumes pipeline operations after coronavirus closure

LIMA (Reuters) – Peruvian state-owned power company Petroper restarted the operation of its pipeline “according to strict protection protocols” after it closed last April as a preventative measure against the coronavirus outbreak, the company said Saturday.

Petroper said that before restarting the oil pumping from the country’s inland jungle to the north coast, they were all subjected to medical checks and tests to rule out COVID-19 infections.

The Andean country recorded 414,735 cases showing the virus, hitting it 3rd Brazil and Mexico in terms of contagion in Latin America.

The oil company is expanding, with an estimated $4.7 billion investment to increase the processing capacity of its Talara refinery to 95,000 barrels consistent with the day (b/d) of crude oil of the existing 65,000 b/d.
