Peruvian state soccer beats statesmen with dominant defense in the second half

OSKALOOSA, IA — The Peruvian state soccer team defeated the William Penn Statesmen, 24-13, on Saturday afternoon in Oskaloosa, Iowa. It is the Bobcats’ sixth straight win over the Statesmen.

With five :41 left in the first quarter, the Statesmen returned the ball on the opportunities. Keyon Henry-Brooks rushed 68 yards for the first landing of the game and Mack Boekhout’s goal attempt was good. The score was 7-0 with five hours and 31 minutes on the clock. The score was 7-7 at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Statesmen controlled their way to the finish zone. The score was 13-7 with 11:52 on the clock. The Bobcats were able to get back to William Penn’s five-yard line before the ball was tossed over the hills. The statesmen were only able to gain six yards on their way out before having to punt, hitting the ball at William Penn’s 47-yard line. The score after the first half was 13-7.

The Bobcats came out ready to fight in the second half. The State of Peru controlled to detain the statesmen on the 49th of the State of Peru after a takeover by Justin Carfrey and Alex Dzingle. The Bobcats took over William Penn 45. Keyon Henry-Brooks and Stacian Livingston threw the ball to William Penn 26. A 19-yard pass to Tyler Floyd from Colin Shields and another pass to Jordan Kempf put the Bobcats in the end zone. A smart kick attempt through Mack Boekhout, making it 14-13 with 9:46 on the clock. The Bobcats kept fighting back and with 2:26 left, Kile Bentley forced a fumble that he recovered through Ashley Thompson at the 19-mark. After proceeding to reach the end zone, Mack Boekhout made a clever basket attempt from the 21st minute with 52 minutes remaining. The score at the end of the third quarter was 17-13 in favor of PSC.

After preventing the Statesmen from starting the fourth quarter, the Bobcats took control at Peru State 20. After several completions from Colin Shields and 28 rushing yards from Keyon Henry-Brooks, the Bobcats reached William Penn 17. Colin Shields connected with Jordan Kempf for 17 yards and landed for a 24-13 lead with less than five minutes remaining. The Statesmen were stopped by the Bobcats in their last practice, and Peru took a winning formation to finish the game, 24-13.

The Bobcats outpaced the Statesmen with Keyon Henry-Brooks with 190 rushing yards. Stacian Livingston added 58 yards rushing. The Bobcats totaled 257 rushing yards while the Statesmen allowed just 129 on Saturday. Tyler Floyd totaled 54 receiving yards with 4 receptions, followed by Jordan Kempf, who totaled 44 yards and 4 receptions.

Defensively, Kile Bentley led the team with 8 total tackles, adding six solo tackles. He followed Mason Benjamin, who made a total of six tackles, adding 4 solos. Ashley Thompson and Duke McClinton each had five total tackles for the Bobcats.
