Peru’s hotel industry, which was hardest hit by the pandemic, contracted nearly 90% compared to the same quarter last year, while the structure fell by 67%, the retail industry fell by 45% and the mining sector by 37%, according to the report..
The number of other people in active employment has fallen by almost 40% compared to the previous year, and has fallen by almost 50% in cities, the firm said last week.
The activity peaked in April and slowly recovered in May and June, but is still well below its point before hatching and last year.The recovery in external demand and the emerging costs of copper and gold provide some relief, but policymakers will want to be more effective in implementing stimulus measures, said Felipe Hernández, economist for Latin America at Bloomberg Economics.
