St. Petersburg. Florida (AP) – Michael Perez connected a solo rbiD career with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Tampa Bay Rays recovered to beat the New York Yankees on Sunday 4-3.
Mike Brosseau started ninth with a double over Zack Britton (0-1) but ejected third in the Brandon Lowe area. Lowe completed the moment in a wild box before Manuel Margot walked.
After any of the runners got into the Willy Adames area in the front row, Perez covered a bachelor on the right as the Rays took 3 of the 4 Eastern American leaders.
“I’m just looking to put the ball, ” said Perez through a translator.
Perez led the only race with a high sacrifice in the Rays’ 1-0 win over New York on Friday night, on his 28th birthday.
“A birthday weekend for him,” said Rays manager Kevin Cash.
Brosseau and Lowe connected home races in the seventh when the Rays tied for 3.
Ryan Thompson (1-0) earned his best ninth place for his first primary league win.
The Rays’ starter, Charlie Morton, left with an swelling in his shoulder after giving a first step to Aaron Hicks on the third. The 36-year-old was 16-6 last year in his first season with Tampa Bay.
“I don’t think it’s a big deal,” said Morton, who first felt some tension at the appointed time.
Yankee starter James Paxton fired in the seventh before giving Jose Martinez a tee over. With one out, Brosseau hit a two-run home run, and two pitches later, Lowe hit a single shot.
“Yes, it hurts, ” said New York manager Aaron Boone. “We had a chance to save the trip. They’ve combined some smart players to get back in the game. We got a lot of intelligence out of the way Pax threw the ball.”
Paxton allowed four hits and struck out 11 in 6 0.33 innings.
“It’s hard, ” Paxton.
Tampa Bay carried the scoreboard with a punch in the eighth and gave the impression of climbing 4-3 when Hunter Renfroe was cautious at the beginning of a possible double-playing ground. The Yankees challenged the appeal and overturned it after a video review.

The Rays have designated Sean Gilmartin for assignment. He is married to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. The left-hander made an appearance this season, allowing three runs and five hits in 3 0.33 innings in the first game of Saturday’s doubles match.
