One of the British tourists was stranded in Romania after his Wizz Air flight “hit a flock of birds” as it left Bulgaria.

A couple from Preston, Steve Fludder and Emma Bradley, said they were “crazy” after their adventure back to the UK had to be interrupted when the plane carrying around 150 passengers tried to leave the city of Varna.

Wrestling promoter Mr. Fludder said he booked the Wizz Air flight at 6:15 a. m. to Liverpool on Tuesday 27th September for him and his partner as a Holiday Package with Love Holidays.

He told Lancs Live: “We were about to take off, the nose of the plane had picked up a bit and then it hit a flock of birds, a bird, a giant flock of birds and the engine caught fire.

The organization of six shared this bathroom in the “out of order” room of the fully booked hotel.

“There were flames coming out of the rear of the engine, and then the brakes hit like there was no tomorrow, so it was like the biggest whiplash ever. It’s crazy. “

After the bird hit, the couple and 4 other passengers were driven by taxi for 4 and a half hours to neighboring Romania.

The organization of six ended up having to share a room with only two beds. Four of them had to sleep on the floor, while a septuagenarian and a lame man were left with the beds.

When they arrived at the hotel, control told them there were no rooms available, according to M. Fludder.

He said, “It wasn’t until after 11:30pm, after watching our organization cry for an hour, that the adorable hotel manager discovered we had an out-of-order room. It wasn’t used, it wasn’t a big room. “

“But they still gave us this room and gave us food, leftovers from the restaurant, so they gave us bloodless food.

“The night in the hotel room was horrible, I lay on the floor. I’m a big guy, I’m not made to lie on the floor with a towel as a pillow.

Fludder added: “Everyone went at least 12 hours without eating or drinking, they never gave it to us in the end. One of the oldest men trembling and hungry. “

Wizz Air representatives reportedly told passengers that the next flight to Liverpool was on October 8, almost two weeks later, as the one on October 1 was fully booked.

Since then, they have been told there is a chance they will take a flight to the UK (September 29), Fludder told the Daily Star.

He added: “They tried to intimidate other people into travelling to London, but they did not cover other people’s adventure from London to Liverpool. There are other people, young couples, who can’t this holiday and don’t know what to do. “

Fludder claimed that her partner’s intellectual fitness had “completely collapsed” and that she was “simply exhausted by anxiety” due to the strain of being stuck on vacation.

A Love Holidays spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear Mr Holidays’ experience. Fludder after WizzAir canceled its short-term flight. We are in normal contact with Mr. Fludder and need to talk more with his airline. “if necessary, to make sure your scenario is resolved as temporarily as possible.

The Independent has contacted Wizz Air for comment.

Update (10/11/2022): Wizz Air contacted us after the publication of this article to tell us that the aircraft had suffered minor damage and had returned to service without delay after maintenance. They also said there was no fireplace or flames.
