Panama City Symphony Orchestra Appoints Sergey Bogza as New Music Director and Conductor

PANAMA CITY – After a four-month search, the Panama City Symphony Orchestra announced that Sergey Bogza will be its new conductor and conductor.

Bogza is the fifth music director and director of the PCSO, replacing former director David Ott, who announced his retirement earlier this year. The first will be at the season opener on October 15.

“It is a privilege to be chosen as the next Music Director of the Panama City Symphony Orchestra,” said Bogza. “I am proud to enroll in an organization whose values align with mine and work with a symphony to forge artistic territory. I look forward to calling Panama City my new home and developing musically in combination while serving our audience with world-class performances. “

Born in Russia to a Russian-Ukrainian family, Bogza comes to his new position with years of industry experience in locations across the United States and Europe.

He cultivated a thriving presence that earned him commitments to orchestras, ballet corporations, and festivals. In addition, he has conducted guest musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra, Virginia Beach Symphony, Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra, Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, Auburn Symphony Orchestra and Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra. and the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra.

Most recently, he was music director and conductor of the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra in Illinois.

He began his musical studies at the age of 12 with trumpet and piano lessons, a “happy journey” of sharing his love of music. Bogza earned a Master of Music in Conducting from Central Washington University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of Minnesota.

Bogza has won prestigious awards in achievement competitions and is an active composer of symphonic and chamber music.

“There was a quick connection to the vision, the method of serving the network and what we need to achieve in the future,” he said. “I think orchestras are still one of the most common performance entities ever created. “

Denise Cox, chair of PCSO’s board of trustees and chair of the music administrators studies committee, said she was confident Bogza would succeed in her new role.

“Sergey Bogza is a conductor on a trajectory of expansion that can take the Panama City Symphony Orchestra to the next level,” Cox said.

Now in its 27th season, the CPSO entertained Bay County audiences with classical and popular music.

In addition to its normal season, the annual extension includes per month Symphony in the City in the roundabout of the City Hall of Panama, the cycle of conferences Moments with the Teacher and Music for My Ears, a school program aimed at third, fourth and fifth grade students.
